Star Seeker
by Theresa Heine
Illustrated by Victor Tavares
Barefoot Books 2006
This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have seen in a long time. The story is about a journey into outer space and viewing all the of the uniqueness of the planets, comets, etc. In addition to being a great story, it also includes information on the planets, the solar system and the moon and stars. This will help any teacher to plan a unit and figure out ideas on what to cover and allow a parent to say to a child "Let's find out what Orion is together" because the information is right there for you.
Science- Create a solar system with foam balls with older children, paper with younger children.
-With a group of children, you can have them represent a different planet or star and them place them in relation to where they would be in the sky. They can "revolve" around the sun.
NASA has some great materials for ages 5+ if you click here.
Enjoy! And post any ideas you have for this book
