Barefoot Books 2007

This vibrant tale about homes for different types of animals has an extensive and descriptive vocabulary for young listeners and readers. Including animals and reptiles, this books is a wonderful introduction to a variety of animals and provides a hidden spider on every page. In the back of the book, it includes more information on the hidden spiders and the variety of habitats found in the book.

Activities:
I-Spy-Find the spider on each page and discuss where the spiderweb is placed. For older kids, discuss the type of spider (which is provided) and why the spider lives in certain habitats.
Creating Habitats-With a variety of natural material (that could be collected from a nature walk) create a habitat for one of the animals. What would it take for the animal to thrive there. This can lead into Kindergarten standards about physical location and differences between parts of the world.
