This is one of my favorite books! It is a cute story that has a little girl that travels around the world to collect ingredients for an apple pie because the market is closed. It includes a recipe for making apple pie in the back of the book.
Activities:
Besides making the apple pie with the children, which is a great activity, I have done many other activities.
-Make a map of all the places that she travels to and do small units from each country.
-Talk about the different languages in the different countries and teach a word from each country that was traveled to.
-Bring in different apples to taste the differences and discuss the taste, texture and feeling of the apples.
-Have the children go home and ask where they are from and a food/ingredient that grows in that country. Then discuss in the class and think of recipes that you could make with all the diversity in the class.
