Our Granny

Our Granny
By Margaret Wild
Illustrated by Julie Vivas
Ticknor & Fields 1994

Not all books can describe grannies like "Our Granny". Trying to be inclusive when it comes to grandmothers, this book does a great job of remembering that not all grandmothers are hanging out in rocking chairs and knitting while making cookies. The book takes in all aspects of different abilities and activities of grandmothers.

Activities:
Art/literacy-draw and describe their grandmother. What does their grandmother look like and do?
Math-For early math learners, count the number of grandmothers that each child has and how many the class has overall.
Science-What are grandmothers? Besides being a part of the family, what else do we know about grandmothers? Are they from our mother or father's side? How are they related to us?
Social Studies-Have child bring in items about grandmother and create a history about her or a timeline
