Growing Vegetable Soup
Growing Vegetable Soup
Written & Illustrated by Lois Ehlert
Voyager Books, 1987
This vibrant book about a father and child planting a vegetable garden, waiting it to grow and using the vegetables in a soup. The beauty of this book is all the "hidden" vocabulary on each page. The author has the items on each page labeled in addition to the story text. It provides for additional learning for the child.
Activities:
Science-Grow your own plants. This is a great way to start showing the life cycle and what it takes to make something to grow.
Language-The amount of vocabulary leads to drawing and learning to spell favorite word or garden item that was in the book. The could also look around the room (in school or home) and find items that start with the same letter.
The book is an activity in itself. I feel that it would be great to bring this book to life.
