Off We Go to Mexico

Off We Go to Mexico
Written by Laurie Krebs
Illustrated by Christopher Corr
Barefoot Books, 2006

The wonderful story is about a family visiting Mexico and seeing all the sites and learning about the culture. Although the book is in English, it has 4 Spanish words that correspond to the story on each page. The back of the book also has
the map of Mexico, facts and history on Mexico and Spanish phrases.

Activities: There are many activities to do with this, especially if you want to use the cultural aspect of the book.
Literacy: The learning of a different language is great for all young readers. With the phrases in the back or the words in the story, it will be easy for those who don't speak Spanish to still teach the basics to children. Teachers and parents can say the word in Spanish and have the youth say it in English or Spanish and find the item in the room.
Cultural Activities: This story can lead to activities in this culture like creating a Mariachi band or dancing like the story.
