Not a Stick

Not a Stick
Written & Illustrated by Antoinette Portis
Harper Collins 2008

Just a cute book. I received this book as a gift and it reminded me of "It Looked Like Spilt Milk" This little pig is being asked to be careful with the stick and the pig makes it clear that it is not a stick but a paint brush, a dumbbell and a fishing pole.

Activities: My first thoughts were of course to go and have all the children get sticks and create a painting with it. This will stray from the stick turning into weapon (which the book does in two scenes). Also, a nature walk to get sticks and share what the stick will become before picking it up can also help guide into the productive use of imagination. :)
